“A sea of lavender in the summer and joyous festival in the winter”
Asahikawa is the 2nd largest city in Hokkaido and located at the center of the island. The winter festival there, started in 1960, is a popular event and attracts around 100 million people every year. Another attraction is the Asahiyama Zoo which is famous for focusing on showing animals' behavior rather than simply their looks so that people can interact with them more than in any other ordinary zoo in Japan.
From Asahikawa, Furano and Biei area can be reached within approximately 1-hour driving and there you can enjoy the landscape of nature with gentle hills and never-ending fields. In July, the flowers of lavender dyes the land purple with beautiful gradation and many domestic and overseas tourists visit there.

Annual temperature is roughly between -6°C (19°F) and 21°C (70°F). August expects the highest precipitation (about 200mm) while December is the snowiest month (about 150cm). June to August are the warmest months (about 17°C or 62°F), and January, February and December are the coldest months (about -6°C or 19°F).
