Gunma prefecture is surrounded by dramatic mountainous landscapes and hot springs (onsen). The combination of beautiful terrain and relaxing waters make it an ideal outdoor getaway for skiing trips in the winter and white water rafting and canyoning during the spring and summer. The most popular town to visit for hot springs (onsen) is Kusatsu which, with its proximity to Tokyo, makes it the ideal weekend getaway.
