“The historic capital keeping traditions alive.”
Kyoto prefecture is a historical and cultural treasure chest of hundreds of temples, castles and shrines with at least 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is home to fantastic temples like Kinkaku-ji (the famed Golden Pavilion) and Higashi Hongan-ji. Kyoto City was the former capital of Japan from 794 to 1868. Despite this, it continues to be the cultural capital of the country. Artisans from generation to generation continue to keep traditional arts and crafts alive well into the present time.
