A landlocked prefecture encircling Japan’s largest lake, Lake Biwa, Shiga is mainly a rural prefecture in western Japan. The lake is featured in several literature and was the site of numerous historical events. Shiga’s most prominent attractions is the ninja town of Koka and Hikone Castle dating back to the 17th century and survived the test of time with little damage.

Annual temperature is roughly between 3°C (38°F) and 27°C (82°F). July expects the highest precipitation (about 220mm) while January is the snowiest month (about 50cm). July to September are the hottest months (about 26°C or 80°F), and January, February and December are the coldest months (about 3°C or 38°F).
