“Enjoy the Beauty of an ever-changing Lake with a glass of fine wine”
Tokachi region in Hokkaido occupies over a million square km, which is larger than each of the 40 out of 47 prefectures in Japan. It's a large agricultural and dairy belt and supplies various kinds of food to the entire country. If you want to view the large stretch of land and be overwhelmed by its size, Naitai plateau has a good observatory.
One of the tourist attractions in this area is Lake Onnetō. It is called a "5-color lake" because the color of the lake changes depending on the season, weather and view angle, and the contrast with the trees and mountains behind it is dazzling and breathtaking.
If you are fond of wine, there is a winery also known as "Wine castle" that offers free guided tours. You can taste and buy Tokachi wine that was established after struggling over half a century to develop the species tolerant to the cold air temperature.
